This business has combined a love of sheep shearing with an environmental cause. They identified a problem in their industry and came up with a solution that is sustainable and valuable to improving soil health.

CONNECT WITH RIGHT CHOICE SHEERING / WOOLCYCLE VIA THEIR WEBSITE

Tell us why you started your business? What motivates you as a business owner? My wife and I have spent more than 15 years shearing sheep for farms and ranches across Texas, and during that time we’ve seen a problem that never sat right with us: thousands of pounds of perfectly usable wool being thrown away because it wasn’t high enough quality for clothing. Farmers often had to pay to dispose of it, and the wool would eventually break down in landfills without ever serving a purpose.

We knew there had to be a better way.

WoolCycle was born from that frustration and from our desire to create something meaningful within the agricultural community we love. Along with another woman shearer who shares our values, we created a woman-owned and LGBTQ+–owned business dedicated to transforming “waste” wool into something valuable again: a renewable, soil-enriching wool pellet that reduces water waste, improves soil health, and returns nutrients back to the earth.

What motivates us is simple: taking something overlooked and giving it purpose, supporting small farmers, and building a sustainable future one pellet at a time.

How are you making an IMPACT? WoolCycle creates impact on multiple levels:

Environmental Impact

diverts wool from landfills where it would decompose unused

reduces reliance on synthetic fertilizers

supports soil health and moisture retention, helping reduce water usage

Agricultural Impact

offers farmers an outlet for their low-grade wool, turning a cost into a resource

strengthens local agricultural economies by adding value to existing livestock operations

Community Impact

provides gardeners, growers, and small farms with a natural, renewable fertilizer alternative

models what circular, sustainable agricultural practices can look like in rural communities

WoolCycle helps ensure that nothing from the sheep industry goes to waste. Our impact is rooted in renewal, sustainability, and respect for the land and the people who rely on it.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WORLD’S OUR ON THEIR WEBSITE

Tell us why you started your business? What motivates you as a business owner? The World’s Ours was founded in 2020 by myself, Koryn Heisler. As a mother of three children, two of which have autism, I wanted to create a community for my children where they felt belonging, safety, and unconditional welcomeness.

Being a parent to children with disabilities in Vancouver is challenging. Our mission is to provide quality programming and support to families with neurodiverse children or children who require additional support. We aim to offer a safe, inclusive and supportive environment with the resources parents need to thrive while their children thrive.

Our Kids Programmes are offered to children ranging from ages 0-18. These programs are designed to help neurodiverse children and children with disabilities learn new skills and have fun. We have expanded our offerings over time to meet the needs of our community. These include:
After School Club
Art Class
Birthday Parties
Cooking Class
Music Therapy
Social Play Group
STEM Group
Summer Programs
Teen Club

Our Adult Programmes are designed to give parents a break with fun activities where they can socialize with other like-minded parents and learn new things. Notably, our Parents Night Out s serve to give parents time together while their children are well cared for. Our Adult programs include:
Parents Night Out
Parent Support Groups
Parent Workshops

All of our programs are delivered by qualified, well-trained staff and volunteers in a class size smaller than 6. Additionally, our programs begin with a social-emotional check-in, and end with a reflection or a showcase of new skills developed.

Beyond the programs listed above, we partner with service providers to offer additional supports for our community. Parents have access to a variety of service providers including therapists, counsellors, psychologists, speech and language pathologists, tutors, and more. Our goal is to create a one-stop shop so parents have access to the resources they need in one place.

Since opening our Vancouver location in 2022, we have seen steady growth each month with new service providers signing on and more kids attending classes.

How are you making an IMPACT? This World’s Ours is the first truly inclusive centre in Vancouver. While many similar service providers say they are inclusive, ultimately children that require additional support are often put on the waitlist or simply aren’t able to attend. Additionally, there is no other centre that offers all of our services in one. We want to give parents longer periods of time for themselves while their kids are safe, secure, and enjoying themselves.

Our daycare and educational programs are designed to create a safe, welcoming, and sensory-friendly space for autistic and neurodivergent children, and children with disabilities. We prioritize creating an environment that minimizes overwhelming stimuli and promotes a sense of comfort and security. Through thoughtful design and adaptations, such as quiet spaces, sensory tools, and visual schedules, we ensure that our center is conducive to the diverse needs of the children we serve.

What sets us apart is our highly trained and compassionate staff. Our team has gone through comprehensive training and have a deep understanding of the unique challenges and strengths of these children. With their expertise, they provide personalized care, support, and guidance to each child, fostering their social, emotional, and cognitive development. We go beyond traditional childcare by offering various programs that are tailored to the needs of children with disabilities. Our curriculum is designed to promote inclusivity, communication skills, social interaction, and self-expression. We understand that every child is unique and deserves a nurturing environment that celebrates their individuality while supporting their specific needs.

By offering specialized daycare and educational programming, we are meeting a crucial need in our community and aiming to set a new standard for inclusion and accessibility. We are actively challenging societal norms and breaking down barriers by promoting acceptance, understanding, and empowerment for all children.
