Nonprofit Feature: Arts In Motion

Arts in Motion is a nonprofit based in Grand Rapids, MI and was one of the nonprofit organizations considered for an IMPACT Grant. While they were not selected as the recipient in this recent grant cycle, our grant committee was deeply impressed by their mission and the incredible impact they’re making in their community.

People with disabilities often lack opportunities to participate in the arts. Your organization and the services you provide are inclusive, accessible and offer a fun safe space for people with disabilities to experience many arts activities. We deeply admire the impactful work you’re doing, Arts In Motion!

We encourage you to take a moment to learn more about this inspiring organization and support their efforts by visiting their social media channels.

What is your Mission Statement? Enriching the community and lives of individuals with disabilities through expressive arts.
Who do you serve? What IMPACT are you making in your community? Arts in Motion provides classes in movement, music, drama, and fine arts for kids and adults with disabilities throughout West Michigan. We teach classes at our studio in Grand Rapids and also send teaching artists to group homes, schools, transition centers, and to other partnering organizations to lead classes. Our goal is to help individuals fall in love with the arts through adapting classes so that everyone can find their true artist within. Our encouraging and celebratory atmosphere makes each of our students feel seen and supported. Arts in Motion also puts on community performances and art exhibits throughout West Michigan year-round to celebrate the work of our students and to connect with the greater community.
How can people who are interested help your organization? We love to have volunteers! Come help out in a class or at an event – you will have a blast! We are always accepting donations including art supplies. We look for businesses to partner with us through sponsoring large events. You can also attend a community performance or art exhibit – purchase a piece and display it in your home or at work! Follow us on social media and share our posts with friends and family.
Anything else you would like to share? Arts in Motion has been making an impact in West Michigan as a nonprofit organization for almost 15 years. Over those years, we have had many returning students and many new. We have grown a community that feels like family and have advocated alongside the disability community. The art created by our students has been cherished by community members and our performances have had lasting impacts on audience members. We support an extremely talented group of artists who are often put down or aside by our society. We would be so grateful for additional funding to support our mission, teachers, students and families.
