What is your Mission Statement? |
Our mission is: To enhance the lives of Deaf and hearing children and their families living with communication and developmental challenges by providing comprehensive educational and communication-rich programs. |
Who do you serve? What IMPACT are you making in your community? |
The Children’s Center for Communication/Beverly School forthe Deaf (CCCBSD) is the regional leader in addressing the education, and communication needs of Deaf and hearing children who have a diverse range of diagnoses including developmental, physical and/or cognitive delays.
CCCBSD is fully accredited and licensed by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Its academics are aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks. The school provides highly specialized academic programming to support the individual learning and communication needs of students, ages 3-22, on a year-round schedule. |
How can people who are interested help your organization? |
There are several ways to help our organization. First and foremost, contributions to our Annual Fund allow forunrestricted use of the funds donated. Support for our events is key: the Spring Soiree - Auction and Dinner (held in May) and/or the Lone Gull 10K road race (held in September). Sponsorships are available at various levels for both events and participation (ticket sales or runner registrations) is another option. At various times during the year, we are in need of volunteers and these include helping at our Miracle League baseball program and helping at water stops or registration at our road race. Other opportunities arise throughout the year at the school as well. |
Anything else you would like to share? |
The school was founded in 1876 as Beverly School for the Deaf, one of the first educational institutions for Deaf children in the country. In the 1970s, the school expanded its mission, accepting hearing children as well as Deaf children, with learning and developmental disabilities. In 2004, CCCBSD redefined its mission and vision, expanding educational and therapeutic programs and services, and incorporating American Sign Language (ASL) in instruction. This initiative transformed the school campus, sparked a dramatic increase in student enrollment, and has led to long-term stability of the school. |
