What is your Mission Statement? Our mission is to work, alone and in collaboration with others, to eliminate hunger in Monroe County and surrounding areas through direct service, education and advocacy. Our programs are designed to combat social stigma and preserve the dignity of all of our patrons.
Who do you serve? What IMPACT are you making in your community? Community Kitchen is a leading force in combating hunger within our county. Beyond serving meals at our two brick-and-mortar locations and through our mobile food truck that reaches low-income and senior housing facilities, we’ve developed impactful programs to address food insecurity throughout the community. This dedication has solidified our position as the largest free meal provider in the county, with an impressive 325,446 meals and snacks distributed to those in need in 2023.

Our flagship program, Backpack Buddies, provides crucial weekend meal support to 560 students from 24 local schools. In partnership with those 24 schools throughout the county, we distribute 560 weekly bags filled with nutritious food, including proteins, grains, fruits, and vegetables, ensuring that families will have sufficient food for the weekend. Our Backpack Buddies program alone utilizes over 2 tons of food each week!
With no eligibility criteria, we prioritize the most vulnerable members of our community, including those experiencing unemployment, low-income families, homelessness, and individuals with disabilities.

How can people who are interested help your organization? Community Kitchen relies heavily on the support of our community. We have a small staff and depend on the dedication of over 100 weekly volunteers, the generosity of individual and corporate donors, and the vital contributions from grocery stores, distributors, and food companies.
