CONNECT WITH ACTS – ACTION IN COMMUNITY THROUGH SERVICE
| What is your Mission Statement | ACTS fosters hope, provides relief, and promotes self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crisis. |
| How are you making an IMPACT? | ACTS delivers a county-wide crisis-to-stability safety net: Hunger Prevention, Housing, Domestic & Sexual Violence services, and Suicide/Crisis support. Each year we serve more than 70,000 neighbors (including 12,000 children), rescue and distribute over 2.3 million pounds of food, operate a 24‑hour crisis line and two safe houses, and provide emergency utility and rental assistance. With 40 staff, 1,002 volunteers contributing 21,610 hours, and 11 properties across Prince William County, ACTS combines direct services, case management, and housing to prevent and resolve crises. Our integrated model keeps families fed, housed, and safe while reducing service fragmentation and maximizing every dollar for measurable community impact. |
| Anything else you would like us to know? | ACTS is an established, 55‑year community anchor providing lifesaving crisis services—food, housing, and 24/7 trauma support—to 70,000 neighbors annually. Even small, flexible grants like IMPACT’s have outsized impact at our Hunger Prevention Center and emergency assistance programs. |

CONNECT WITH LAST MILE CAFE VIA THEIR WEBSITE
| Tell us why you started your business? What motivates you as a business owner? | Last Mile Cafe was born out of a recognition that the coffee industry does not treat everyone fairly. As a co-founder born and raised in Grand Rapids, Michigan, I became aware that many large coffee brands lack genuine commitment to justice, transparency, and sustainability. I started Last Mile Cafe to change that narrative: to prove that you can build a people-focused coffee business from start to finish that is sustainable, equitable, and inclusive, and sets a new example for how businesses should operate. What motivates me every day is knowing that every cup we serve, every local partnership we forge, and every dollar we donate is a step toward a more just and equitable world. |
| How are you making an IMPACT? | At Last Mile Cafe, impact is woven into every decision we make. We donate 2% of all revenue, not just profit, to nonprofits addressing youth-at-risk programs, environmental justice, criminal justice reform, and access to clean drinking water. We pay our team a living wage, use eco-friendly compostable packaging, and source our coffees through sustainable and ethical supply chains. We have partnered with local businesses, farmers markets, and community organizations in the Grand Rapids area to strengthen the local economy and uplift minority-owned businesses. As a Black-owned and woman-owned business, we also represent the kind of inclusive entrepreneurship we want to see more of in our community. |
